Though I was sad to leave behind my country cabin and return to life in the big smoke, some beautiful banksias from the adjourning native gardens helped me bring a little Halls Gap back to my city shoebox.
Other mementoes of the weekend away include yet another porcelain pooch and glassware from the charming Pomonal market.
It’s true that there’s no place like home, but my home away from home came close when I spent the weekend away in Halls Gap. Halls Gap is a tiny township in a valley surrounded by the beautiful Grampians mountain range, where the vegetarian meal options are few but the kangaroos are many. The open fire in my cabin proved the perfect accompaniment to beautiful bottles of red from the local wineries, including charming Mount Langi. The Halls Gap Zoo is full of friendly deer and even has its own pack of guinea pigs. How many zoos can say that?
